110-Pound Catfish Caught, Florida Man Breaks All-Time GA Record
Tim Trone of Florida reeled in the record-breaking fish in a pond south of Columbus.

STEWART COUNTY, GA — A massive blue catfish, one that weighed more than 110 pounds, was caught in a pond south of Columbus in Stewart County earlier this fall. The catch, made by Tim Trone of Havana, Florida, set the record for the largest freshwater fish ever caught in the Peach State.
“We pulled it up and the bottom scaled out and I knew right then, like I’ve got the Georgia record,” Trone told the WRBL television station in Columbus.
The fish weighed 110 pounds, 6 ounces, according to WRBL. Trone told the news station he had never before caught one weighing more than 40 pounds.

Trone broke the previous record for the largest freshwater fish caught in Georgia by 17 pounds, according to a Rockdale/Newton Citizen report. The new record has been certified by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' wildlife resources division.
Thom Litts, chief of fisheries for the state's wildlife resource division, confirmed that Trone's blue catfish was a state record catch.

It's not likely the largest fish ever caught in the state, however. Litts said lake sturgeon can become 200 pounds or heavier, and have been known to be found in Georgia.
