Georgia Chick-Fil-A Owner Offers Apology To Breastfeeding Mom

The apology comes after a mother was asked to cover up while breastfeeding her infant in the dining room of a Chick-fil-A in Evans.

EVANS, GA — The owner of a Chick-fil-A in eastern Georgia has apologized to a mother whose Facebook post about being asked to cover up while she breastfed her 7-month-old daughter inside the restaurant went viral and sparked protests among other moms.

Samantha McIntosh, who was breastfeeding her daughter in the dining area of the Mullins Crossing Chick-fil-A, said she was asked by a manager to cover up. Angry, she shared her experience on social media, garnering thousands of replies in the first 24 hours, the Augusta Chronicle reports.

In the post, McIntosh said someone had complained and asked the manager to ask her if she would cover up since there were other children in the restaurant.

"Please keep in mind that I am wearing a nursing tank top under a large long sleeve shirt. My shirt was pulled up and resting on my daughter’s cheek and my tank top was pulled down just enough for my daughter to latch so I happen to know that absolutely no skin was showing and we sat in a booth in the back of the restaurant," McIntosh said in her post.

Though McIntosh eventually left, she and three dozen people returned to the restaurant Tuesday night, filling the Chick-fil-A's dining area to protest the incident and voice their support for public breastfeeding.

An apology came the following day from the Evans Chick-fil-A owner, Jason Adams. He emailed the following statement to the Augusta Chronicle:

“I am truly sorry for the experience Ms. McIntosh had in our restaurant yesterday,” Adams said. “I have reached out to her to personally apologize. My goal is to provide a warm and welcoming environment for all of our guests.”
