GA High School Teachers' Rap Videos Welcome Students Back

Two Georgia high school teachers are welcoming students back to the new school year and virtual learning with rap videos.

MONROE, GA — Back-to-school looks a little different this year, as teachers and students prepare to teach and learn remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic. But teachers at one Georgia high school are helping their students make the best of it by welcoming them back with a rap video that has now gone viral.

Monroe Comprehensive High School teachers Audri Williams and Callie Evans posted videos to their Instagram accounts on Monday, creating lyrics inspired by the Jack Harlow single "What's Poppin?"

"We are in for a wild ride this school year, but let's make the best of it!" Williams wrote in the video captions. "What better way to release all of the anxiety, doubts & fears of the school year than to dance & turn up."

The video features Williams rapping with masked backup dancers in the school hallway wearing the schools colors.

"My school is the best, there's no competition," she sings.

Evans posted her portion of the song on her Instagram account, writing "Tomorrow is the first day of virtual school!!"

"With all the uncertainty these past few months have brought, I want to be able to get my students excited for what's to come," she wrote in the caption. "You all will still be great despite what we've been through."

The message of Evans' video reflects the changes students will experience through virtual learning and reminds students to log in and be ready for class every day. She also reminds students to wear their masks and wash their hands to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.
