Acworth Father, Son Killed in Jet Ski Accident

The incident happened in Sunset Beach, NC, late Friday afternoon.

An Acworth father and son were killed on Friday in a jet skiing accident in North Carolina.

John Wernowsky, 51, and his son Jake, 10, were on a jet ski when it collided with a fishing pier in Sunset Beach. Both died from blunt force trauma.

Two other people on a nearby jet ski were also hurt, according to WWAY TV.

The town has closed the pier through the Memorial Day weekend, reports WECT.

Wernowsky, his son, along with his wife and daughter, were on vacation when the accident happened. Wernowksy's wife and daughter reportedly saw the entire incident.

Police say that drugs or alcohol were not involved. They believe that as Wernonsky and his son approached the pier, someone hit the jet ski's throttle, which caused the watercraft to hit the pier, which was about 50 feet in front of them.

Several bystanders also saw the incident, and rushed to bring the father and son onto shore, where they attempted to perform first aid.
