Cobb Neighborhood Evacuated, Bomb Squad Called

Authorities say they arrested a man Tuesday who told them he had explosives in his SUV.

ACWORTH, GA — Several homes in a Cobb County neighborhood were evacuated on Tuesday after a man officers were arresting told them he had explosives in his SUV.

WSB-TV reports that the incident happened on Baker Road in Acworth Tuesday morning. Cobb County Sheriff's Office deputies were serving an arrest warrant on a man who has been identified as Brent Christopher Allsup.

Allsup had been wanted on charges of theft by taking and making false statements.

When they arrested him, deputies say Allsup told them he had explosives in the vehicle, WSB reports. The county's bomb squad was called and the homes were evacuated as they worked.

According to the sheriff's office, the bomb squad was able to safely remove the explosives from the SUV. Residents of the neighborhood were allowed to return to their homes after several hours.
