GBI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting In Cobb: ICYMI

SOUTH COBB, GA -- The Cobb County Police Department has requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) investigate an officer-involved shooting, Patch has learned.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, a Cobb officer responding to a call happened upon a fight in progress at the Elegant Point Event Hall in the 300 block of Riverside Parkway in Austell. "The subject discharged the weapon multiple times. The officer discharged his weapon fatally wounding the subject," the release said. The person was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died.

The officer was not hurt in the shooting. When the GBI concludes its independent investigation, the matter will be handed over to the Cobb District Attorney's Office.
