Neighbor Saves Christmas Gifts from Acworth House Fire

Former UGA football player Jevaris Johnson salvaged a neighbor's Christmas presents when a fire broke out Thursday morning on Glenaire Way.

The Cobb County Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire Christmas Day on the 4100 block of Glenaire Way in Acworth.

Former University of Georgia football player Jevaris Johnson called 911 when he spotted flames spreading at a neighbor’s home around 1 a.m. Before firefighters arrived, Johnson realized his neighbors were not home and entered the building to save what he could. He salvaged about 15 of the family’s Christmas presents from the living room.

The fire, which was reportedly contained to the attic, destroyed most of the home’s roof and second story. The entire home suffered heavy water and smoke damage.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to be accidental.
