Alpharetta Polar Bear Plunge On Feb. 2 At Wills Park

The event is a fundraiser for the Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation.

ALPHARETTA, GA — Residents are invited to brave the cold waters of the Wills Park Pool Saturday to raise money to help the men and women of the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.

The Alpharetta Polar Bear Plunge, which is hosted by the Alpharetta Rotary Club, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 2 at Wills Park at 11925 Wills Road. Participants are asking friends and family members to sponsor them with a donation for the event, the proceeds of which will be given to the Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation.

Other festivities include hot beverages and breakfast, a costume contest, a chili cook-off sponsored by the Alpharetta Public Safety Department, music and other activities. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and the first wave of jumpers will plunge into the water at 10 a.m. The top fundraisers will dive in at 11 a.m., and the ADPS chili cook-off is set to begin at noon.

The Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation supports the DPS by raising money to purchase equipment and "creating programs which assist in their pursuit of excellence in public safety," according to its website.

The Foundation is responsible for a variety of programs that benefit the department as well as less fortunate residents. The most well-known initiative it undertakes each year is the Shop with a Cop program.
