The April 21 meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in Community Place, the small building on the grounds of the City Hall complex at 2006 Heritage Walk. People can also attend, and follow along, remotely using this Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/92858975812.
The group, also known as MEC, has created subcommittees to help focus and drive their efforts. On Wednesday, members will get the latest on Birmingham Park and various challenges affecting farm ownership in Milton.

Member Brian Maloney will lead a discussion about public relations/marketing plans to champion and foster Milton’s equestrian community. A coordinated social media campaign, an equestrian/farm page on the City website, and outreach to local media could all be part of this strategy.
These efforts may include profiling a range of people who enjoy and benefit from equestrian activities in Milton, exploring ways to expose more people around the city to horses, and possibly adding horse statues in roundabouts or elsewhere.
This all builds off other initiatives such as the Barn of the Month – a monthly social media feature introducing people to beautiful barns around Milton. If you would like to nominate your barn, go to http://bit.ly/MiltonBOTM. And follow the City’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/thecityofmiltonga/, for this and other equestrian and Milton features.
Having great, picturesque places to ride in the community is important to the Milton Equestrian Committee. To that end, on Wednesday members will talk about the April 24 Birmingham Park clean-up day the MEC is organizing in partnership with the non-profit Milton Land Conservancy. Members will touch on logistics, recruiting volunteers and more.
The last order of business relates to the City of Milton’s policies on “flag lots” – property tracts with thin strips of land that connect with the road in one direction and with a thicker, typically rectangular or square piece of land on the other backend. These can occur when a rectangular/square piece of land is subdivided to create thin strips.
Other nearby cities like Alpharetta, Roswell and Sandy Springs significantly restrict flag lots. Zoning Manager Robyn MacDonald will explain what has happened related to this topic at recent City Council and Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee meetings as part of a push to potentially change Milton’s policies to incentivize large lots.
After Wednesday’s meeting, the Milton Equestrian Committee is next scheduled to convene on May 19.
