Couple Injured When Light Pole Fell On Them At Avalon: Police

A couple was injured Dec. 20 when a delivery truck backed into a pole that fell on them at Avalon. The driver was not charged, police said.

ALPHARETTA, GA — A couple was injured last week when a light pole fell on them while they were at Avalon, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety said.

"In case you’ve heard about police and EMS at Avalon earlier, a delivery truck struck a light pole that fell on two people," the department posted on Facebook. "Neither appeared to have suffered serious injuries, however, they were both taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluations."

The driver of the delivery truck remained at the scene and cooperated fully with officers. They were not charged with any violations, the police said.

“The last thing I remember is just a crazy pain in my head and falling backwards,” Larry Etheridge told the station. “I got 10 staples and 10 stitches, so 20 total in my head here."

Meri Etheridge told the station she suffered ligament damage from the incident.

“I’m thankful that God protected me and my wife. I mean, if one of us had been hit in a different way with that pole, we could have been gone,” Larry Etheridge said to the station.
