Ga. 400 At Windward Parkway Expansion Begins To Reduce Congestion
The Windward Parkway expansion will reduce congestion at Ga. 400 by adding a triple-left-turn lane to Deerfield and Westside Parkways.
ALPHARETTA, GA -- One of the busiest intersections in Alpharetta will soon get an upgrade to help reduce congestion for commuters.
The North Fulton Community Improvement District, or CID, and the City of Alpharetta broke ground April 11 on the Windward Parkway Phase 2 project. This second phase will add a triple-left-turn-lane to improve transportation flow for drivers along and entering Windward Parkway from Ga. 400 northbound. The first phase, completed in 2011, added a right turn lane at the bottom of the Windward exit ramp as well as an eastbound lane along Windward from the off-ramp to North Point Parkway.
The $7.18 million project is being jointly funded by the CID, City of Alpharetta, Georgia Department of Transportation, State Road and Tollway Authority and Fulton County. The total CID investment to date has been just over $1 million. The project is expected to be complete in 2020.

Due to the high volume of traffic, the CID studied this area to determine how to make the area more user-friendly. Originally envisioned in the CID's Blueprint North Fulton master plan and also included in Blueprint North Fulton 2.0, the Windward Parkway expansion will have a noticeable impact on the commuters, residents and daily visitors by significantly improving the off ramp traffic from Ga. 400.
To accommodate the triple-left turn lanes and increase capacity, Windward Parkway will also be widened to three lanes from the northbound exit ramp intersection to the Westside Parkway/Deerfield Parkway intersection.
