GASSAR New "Paul Prescott Award"

The Georgia State Son's of the American Revolution voted at voted to have a New State Award called the " Paul Prescott Award"

(Paul Prescott )

At the recent Georgia Society SAR Fall October 2020 BOM meeting, the Board of Managers voted and passed a new GASSAR award called the β€œPaul Prescott Award”.

This new GASSAR Award is to honor Paul Prescott for his service as a member of the Georgia Fellows Fund Board for two terms (2015-2017, 2018-2020).

During that time, Paul has made a tremendous contribution to the growth of the Georgia Fellows Fund. Every year during the National Society Spring and Fall Leadership meetings, Paul collected merchandise orders from the Georgia Society Chapters and places a β€œbulk order” to SAR National. He picked these orders up at meetings at SAR Headquarters in Louisville and was given a discount on the cost of merchandise and savings on shipping. The savings were donated to the Georgia Fellows Fund. He offered this service at no cost to the Chapters or State Society. Paul’s contribution over the years has run into the thousands of dollars and his intangible support of the Georgia Fellows program has been beyond measure.

In recognition of Paul's contributions, financial and otherwise, the SAR Georgia Society proposed the creation of the "Paul I. Prescott Award." This would be similar to the "Walter Buchanan 'Buck' Meek Award" presented by National to the State Society who has recruited the most new George Washington Fellows; in this case, it would be to the Chapter that recruits the most new Georgia Fellows during the calendar year. The recipient would be based on the total number of Georgia Fellows recruited and presented annually at the GASSAR Annual State Meeting and would consist of a certificate that reads:

β€œThe Paul I. Prescott Award is hereby presented to the (blank) Chapter in recognition of having recruited the most new Georgia Fellows during the year (blank)”.

The Purpose of the Georgia Fellows Foundation is:

From time to time there are requests for funding for projects, activities, supplies, or equipment that are not included in the annual budget. Committees or officers may have valid needs for funds in addition to the budget. Therefore, the Georgia Society Fellows Program was established for the purpose of funding or reimbursing worthy activities, events, or needs of the Georgia Society that are considered to be valid expenditures not included in the annual budget. It is not the intent of the Georgia Fellows Program to create another endowment fund, supplant an existing fund, or to amass a large balance in the face of current needs. The authorization and change of the Georgia Fellows concept is in the hands of the State Society Board of Managers (BOM).

What is a Georgia Fellow:

Georgia Fellows are persons who choose to distinguish themselves or who are recognized or memorialized by others by a special purpose contribution of $250 to the general fund of the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution (GASSAR). Designation as a Georgia Fellow is not limited to members of GASSAR. Georgia Fellows may also be other members of SAR, friends, relatives, spouses, or other individuals, living or deceased, having an interest in furthering the goals of the Georgia Society or that are being recognized or memorialized.

The SAR Piedmont Chapter is honored that Paul Prescott is one our members and glad our GASSAR Society has honored him too, with this new award with his name.
