GDOT To Begin Resurfacing Crabapple Road, Birmingham Highway

The entirety of State Route 372 in Milton, namely Crabapple Road and Birmingham Highway, will be resurfaced this summer, starting this week.

MILTON, GA — The entirety of State Route 372 in Milton, namely Crabapple Road and Birmingham Highway, will be resurfaced this summer, starting this week.

Since this is a state route, this $2.2 million project is being overseen by the Georgia Department of Transportation. The City of Milton's government has no role, nor control, of this effort.

Weather and on-site conditions permitting, GDOT expects to begin work on Monday. The work could be completed by late this summer. Learn more about this project online.

The work will stretch from where Ga. 372 meets Ga. 140/Arnold Mill Road/Houze Road in the south/west (which is in Alpharetta) to the Cherokee County line in the north. Ga. 372 does not run in a straight line, veering in downtown Milton at its intersection with Broadwell Road and Mayfield Road. The project involves patching, milling and inlay work before the resurfacing of the road's top layer.

During this same timeframe, GDOT also plans to remove the concrete island and re-stripe turn lanes at the intersection of Ga. 372/Crabapple Road at Green Road. The receiving lane for left turns off Green Road will be removed as part of this process.

Most work should take place at night, ideally minimizing disruption to travelers. That said, drivers out when crews are on the road should reduce their speeds in work zones and minimize distractions. They may also experience delays, so should try to plan accordingly.

There will likely be routine overnight lane closures, for instance, between Sunday and Thursday. (The same could also happen overnights Fridays and Saturdays.) GDOT's contractor should put message boards to keep motorists informed.

The state agency has a webpage featuring weekend lane closures on state routes. People can also get real-time traffic updates by calling 511, using the Georgia 511 app, or going online.

Although not a city project, residents are welcome to contact Milton's Public Works Department with questions. Contact information can be found at online, or email info@cityofmiltonga.us.
