Driver Cited After Striking Power Pole In Alpharetta

The city had to close Main Street between Cumming Street and Mayfield Road so Georgia Power crews could make repairs.

ALPHARETTA, GA — Police have cited the driver of a vehicle who crashed into a utility pole early Tuesday in downtown Alpharetta, a collision that forced the city to close a segment of Main Street so Georgia Power crews can repair the damage.

The city closed Ga. 9/Main Street between Cumming Street and Mayfield Road, but the road eventually reopened around 1 p.m. Oct. 23 to motorists. The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety said on its Facebook page that a car crashed into the power pole during the overnight hours, and the incident became more complicated when the driver of a trash truck went around officers at the scene and "pulled the wires (down) even lower."

Alpharetta Department of Public Safety spokesperson Howard Miller said the driver has been cited in connection to the collision.

In another traffic-related incident, the city had to contend with a traffic control box that went off the grid on Ga. 9 at Academy Street. That box has since been repaired, and traffic returned to its normal flow for Tuesday.
