Lead Actor Needed For 'Jesus Christ Superstar' Anniversary Tour
Open casting calls are being held in Alpharetta for the role of Jesus. Rehearsals start on Aug. 26 for a tour starting on Oct. 1 into 2020.
ALPHARETTA, GA — The 50th anniversary tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s “Jesus Christ Superstar” needs male talent, aged 20–39, for the lead role, according to Backstage.
In the musical, Jesus has a personality akin to a rock star, equally comfortable addressing 12 as 12,000 people. The production is seeking talent that moves comfortably with real guitar skills.
The company is looking for a man with a "chest voice B2-Bb4, powerful falsetto/scream up to G5. This role demands a well-rounded, rich middle register that also has a super extended upper register with virtuosity coupled with sensitive musicianship. Think Jim Morrison meets Steven Tyler. A true 'rock star,' comfortable addressing a group of 12 or an arena of 12,000. This role does not dance but must be comfortable moving. A performer with strong individual identity, ability to communicate beyond the fourth wall in a very large house and be free and creative during the rehearsal process. Must play guitar."
