In Memory: Bob Harris, 87, Former Cop Practiced Law in Roswell, Alpharetta

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roswell Funeral Home.

Robert ”Bob” Anson Harris, 87, passed away peacefully Sept. 12, 2015. Born in Smyrna, GA to the late Lorrie and Anson Harris. Bob graduated from Tech High School in 1946 and joined the Navy offer graduation serving in Norfolk VA. He started his career with the Atlanta Police department as a motorcycle policeman and spent several years as a detective in vice, lottery and homicide. He was one of the last detectives involved in the Jewish Temple bombing in Atlanta.

Bob attended Georgia State during his police years and graduated from Woodrow Wilson Law School. He joined the city of Atlanta Attorneys office in 1961 working for Jack Savage and later Henry Bowden in 1963. Bob initially moved to the city of Atlanta traffic court as solicitor working with the late “Mutt” Schaffer. Bob finally retired from the city of Atlanta and moved from Sandy Springs to Alpharetta.

He started as prosecutor of Alpharetta on a part time basis in the early 70’s. Bob enjoyed many years in private law practice and thrived for years as prosecutor for both Roswell and Alpharetta and he spent over 50 years combined with Atlanta, Alpharetta and Roswell with various legal positions.

Bob was proud of becoming an Eagle Scout in his youth. He received his 50 year pin with the Masons and Yaarab Temple in Atlanta. He enjoyed wood working hobbies and his Jokes throughout his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Anne Louise Holland Harris; his only son and daughter-in-law Robert Timothy and Brenda Harris, his beloved grandchildren, Russell Harris, wife Hillary, Jeffery Harris and wife Lauren and Julianne Harris Wolfe and husband Tim; great-grandchildren, Walker and Anna Cate Harris, Emma Rose and Ava Harris, Laura Grace Wolfe and Virginia Lee Wolfe.

A service to celebrate the life of Bob will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Roswell Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Bowen officiating, he will be laid to rest in Green Lawn Cemetery with Navy Honors.
