Metro Atlanta Breaks Record High Temperatures This Week
The metro Atlanta area has broken several records this week for high temperatures when the thermostat hit over 98 degrees, officials said.
GEORGIA — As no surprise to anyone living in Georgia, the state broke multiple records for high temperatures this week as temperatures climbed close to 100 degrees.
The National Weather Service said that record high temperatures were broken in Atlanta and Macon on from Tuesday, Sept 10 to Thursday, Sept. 12.
Atlanta reached a temperature of 96 degrees on Sept. 11 that ties the daily record which was set back in 2010.

The hottest day of the week came on Sept. 12 when Atlanta broke the record when the temperature climbed to 99 degrees, which broke the previous record set in 1900 at 94 degrees.

The day before, Atlanta reached a temperature of 97 degrees which temperature ties the daily record was set in 1925, NWS said.

The heat continues Friday and into the weekend, and the National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North and Central Georgia.
Hot temperatures are expected again Friday resulting in heat indices in the upper 90s to lower 100s over portions of north and central Georgia Friday afternoon.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division also issued a Code Orange, unhealthy for sensitive groups, Air Quality Alert for Atlanta for Friday, Sept. 13.
Under Code Orange conditions, the outdoor air quality is likely to be unhealthy for some people. Children, people who are sensitive to ozone, and people with heart or lung disease should limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the late afternoon or early evening when ozone concentrations are highest, NWS said.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms can be expected over north and portions of central Georgia Friday afternoon into the night. A few storms could be strong with gusty winds, frequent lightning and brief heavy rain.

There is still at least a small potential for a tropical system to impact portions of south and east Georgia by the late weekend into early next week. NWS said to monitor updates as there remains great uncertainty and changes are likely.

A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. East wind 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. East wind 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday Night
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Calm wind.
Sunday
A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Sunday Night
A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.
