Milton Celebrates Earth Day With Fun Family Activities
Everyone is invited to the Milton City Hall Plaza on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for this free community event.

From The City of Milton:The City of Milton and corporate partner Home Depot have another fun-filled day planned in celebration of Earth Day 2018. Everyone is invited to the Milton City Hall Plaza on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for this free community event.
Kids can build a Home Depot bird feeder and make other fun crafts from recycled materials. Community favorite zoologist Jim Nark returns to this year's celebration, bringing amphibians, reptiles, arachnids, insects, and mammals for an entertaining and educational experience for children and adults alike.
"It's never too early to teach our children the importance of sustainable living," said Milton's Conservation Projects Manager Teresa Stickels. "Milton is committed to finding innovative and interactive approaches to promote environmental education and encourage green living."

In addition to children's activities, there will be live music by Gray Matters Acoustic and green classes will be offered in Community Place, the community building adjacent to City Hall Plaza. Classes include a Make Your Own Rain Barrel workshop, presented by the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, and a Composting Basics workshop, hosted by the Fulton County UGA Extension Office. These are hands-on workshops that require attendees to pre-register or RSVP in order to participate. Online registration is required to participate in the rain barrel workshop, and composting workshop participants should RSVP to Teresa Stickels at teresa.stickels@cityofmiltonga.us.
In addition to the activities and workshops outlined above, Milton's Earth Day celebration includes the following:

- The first 100 Earth Day attendees will take home a free tree seedling for planting.
- There will be a limited supply of April/May National Wildlife Federation magazines including the popular children's publication Ranger Rick Jr.
- Event volunteers will be available to assist anyone interested in certifying their backyard as a National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat.
- The North Fulton Master Gardeners will host the "Ask a Gardener" booth for all your gardening questions.
- The Milton Disability Awareness Committee will showcase raised planters that demonstrate accessible gardening.
First launched in 2017, this year's 9th Annual Earth Day celebration also incorporates an environmental community service component. For 2018, local Brownie and Cub Scout troops will be promoting clean water by marking Milton storm drains, and the Cambridge Youth Lacrosse program will be spreading trail mulch and planting bushes at Bell Memorial Park.
"With all the great nearby dining options, this event doesn't include food vendors," said Community Outreach and Engagement Manager Courtney Spriggs. "Attendees can bring a packed lunch for a picnic on the Plaza or grab a snack or lunch at one of the many restaurants located near City Hall."
Nearby lunch options include: Cans Taqueria; 850 Barpizza; Grand Champion BBQ; Kathleen's Catch; Laurel & May Market; Olde Blind Dog; Peace, Love and Pizza; Purpose Snackery; and Vintage Pizzeria.
