Milton Schools Compete in First Ever Intracity Championship

The girls' lacrosse programs at Cambridge and Milton competed for the state title.

From the City of Milton: On Wednesday night, both the Cambridge High School and Milton High School girls' lacrosse teams secured their spot to compete for the state title on Saturday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood Stadium in south Atlanta.

This will be the first ever intracity state championship for the city of Milton and the first time the Cambridge girl's lacrosse team will compete for the state title. Milton High School has won the state championship a record 10 times.

"What makes this game so special for the city of Milton is that not only are these our neighborhood schools, but almost all of these young women were past participants in the city's recreational lacrosse program," said Jim Cregge Milton's director of parks and recreation department. "All these players are winners to us and we couldn't be more proud!"

Milton's lacrosse program partner, Eagle Stix Lacrosse, was founded by Milton resident David Winsness. The lacrosse program got its start in 2006 and in 2009 it officially became known as Eagle Stix. Their website offers an impressive list of former players who have gone on to play lacrosse at the collegiate level.

"Having two local teams in the biggest game of the year speaks to the quality of the recreational programming offered by the City, its program partners and volunteer coaches," said Eagle Stix Program Director, and Milton Girl's Lacrosse Head Coach, Tim Godby.

According to Winsness, whose daughter plays on the Milton team, both teams met up for a joint celebratory dinner following their Wednesday night games. "That's part of what makes youth recreational sports so great, the lifelong friendships that grow out of playing together," said Winsness.

"Our team has been successful this season because not only are they tremendous athletes, but they have extraordinary chemistry on and off the field," said Cambridge Head Coach Pam Masinko.

The City of Milton is encouraging the entire community to come out and support these two schools in this monumental game.
