Milton Steelers Offer Free Registration for '17 Season

Online registration is available online and ends June 8.

From the City of Milton: New for the 2017 football season, the City of Milton's program partner, the Milton Steelers, will offer free tackle football registration for Milton and Alpharetta residents. Registration is available online at timlester.org and the deadline to register is June 8.

"We're excited to support our program partner in their efforts to remove obstacles for children to participate in Milton programming," said Milton's Director of Parks and Recreation Jim Cregge. "Getting more kids outside and active is always a win."

The Milton Steelers will offer programs serving children ages Kindergarten through grade 8. Historically, the Milton Steelers have not offered football programs for middle schoolers. According to Milton Steelers founder and league director Tim Lester, expanding their age groups will provide additional recreational opportunities for middle school-aged children and allow more youth athletes the opportunity to further develop their skills prior to entering high school.

"We're committed to offering a more personal experience for our participants through smaller team sizes," said Lester. "Our program is focused on building character, player safety, and teaching fundamentals, using the best equipment on the market."

The Milton Steelers report that registration totals have increased for this year-over-year time period with almost 100 players already registered, and league officials expect those registration totals to continue to climb through the June 8 registration deadline.
"Our sixth grader previously played with the Milton Steelers and we now have an eight year old who is playing flag football with the Steelers," said Anthony Pumarejo. "It's great to have both of our kids back together again playing for the same program."

The New Found Life Youth Football League (NFLYFL), operating as the Milton Steelers, was founded in 2012 by former NFL player Tim Lester. The NFLYFL, sponsored by Williams & Williams Law Firm, Peach & the Porkchop, NFL Youth Foundation and the Brock Foundation, focuses on developing life skills and individual character while growing the love for the game of football. Ninety percent of the volunteer coaches have played high school, college or professional football. In addition to developing youth athletes, coaches are expected to lead by example both in words and actions. The goal of the organization is to guide athletes in becoming positive contributors to not only their team but their community.
