Milton Track Hosts Showcase Meet

2-Day meet an early-season test for many north-metro Atlanta programs

Milton High School hosted its largest meet of the season this past weekend as 13 schools converged on the track at the Eagles Nest with the Gladiators of Johns Creek dominating the results & capturing the overall team titles.

GIRLS

The Lady Eagles competed against some of the best schools in the north-metro Atlanta area and came away with one school record and a few top-10 all-time overall performances. Milton (6th-78 pts) was able to defeat 7 schools while Johns Creek (1st-182 pts) scored in every event to capture the team title. Cambridge (2nd-177 pts) & Chattahoochee (3rd-126 pts) trailed. The lone event victory for the Lady Eagles was from senior Nyah Hernandez. In the 1500m Hernandez (1st-4:55.98) led from the start to become Milton’s 2nd best performer in the event in school history. Hernandez (3rd-5:21.79) returned in the Mile to break her own school record by a little less than a second. The Lady Eagles also had one other single-event double scoring athlete with freshman Annalise Crow in the 1500m (5th-5:14.83) & also scoring in the 2-Mile (5th-12:17.50). Both of Crow’s performances put her in the top-10 performers all-time in school history in those events.

Top-10 all time school performances were also turned in by freshman Nora Megenty (2nd-30’9”) in the triple jump to move to 8th on the list and senior Jessica Archer (5th-27.02) in the 200m as she moved to 9th on the all-time performers list.

BOYS

Milton (4th-110 pts) turned back 8 schools as Johns Creek (1st-186 pts) easily outdistanced Cambridge (2nd-134 pts) and Roswell (3rd-123 pts) to capture the team title. The Eagles were led by senior Spencer Watry with dominating wins in both the 800m (1st-1:59.84) & 1-Mile (1st-4:30.64) and with the latter, Watry became the 2nd best performer in school history. The 5000m event saw the most points (18) scored in one race/event as junior co-captain Hayden Marshall (1st-15:37.58) became the schools 4th best performer in the event by taking the overall win. Behind Marshall, fellow junior Jack Petkash (2nd-16:06.97) was runner-up and moved to 7th on the best performers list in school history. The triple jump saw 2 scorers for Milton and two new top-10 all-time performers in the event. Junior Justin Konyeaso (4th-41’1”) & freshman Devin Dahunsi (5th-40’10”) became the 6th & 7th best performers in school history in the event. Also finishing in the top-3 for an award-winning performance was sophomore Cameron Cainion (3rd-11.32) in the 100m dash.

The Eagle track teams next see action Saturday, March 14th as the teams travel to River Ridge HS & Creekview HS for invitational meets.
