Polar Bear Plunge Raises $30K For Public Safety Foundation
The Alpharetta Rotary Club's inaugural event was held Feb. 2 at the Wills Park pool.
ALPHARETTA, GA — What is red, white and blue and able to raise money? A frozen Alpharetta Rotarian at the Polar Bear Plunge of course. This first-ever event was held Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Wills Park pool, and was dubbed a "huge success" by organizers, the Alpharetta Rotary Club said in a press release.
The Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau ordered up the blue skies and moderate temperatures. The Alpharetta Police and Fire departments supplied the goods for the chili cookoff, and the Rotary Club, Lionheart School and Girl Scouts provided the adults and children who were daring enough to participate.
One by one, more than 30 people with a desire to get wet and cold for a cause jumped from the high dive or ventured down the slide into the pool. Costume attire ran the gamut from polar bear to shark to Maori warrior. The best part of all, after everyone was warm and dry, the Rotary Club of Alpharetta had raised over $30,000 for the Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation.
