MILTON, GA — Residents are invited to go online for the opportunity to weigh in on the final draft of Milton's 2040 Comprehensive Plan.

This document will guide city government projects, priorities and policies for at least the next five years. It came together after 10 months of committee meetings, virtual forums, in-person events, extensive behind-the-scenes engagement and work by the 2040 Comprehensive Plan's project team.

Visit the "social engagement" page to view the final draft and share comments. The main page also explains the Comprehensive Plan's purpose, lays out types of questions it can help answer, showcases pertinent videos and presentations and outlines the thorough process that led to its creation.

The 2040 Comprehensive Plan spells out Milton's state now, the many public engagement efforts throughout the 10-month-long process and a slate of recommendations based on input from citizens, city staff, Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee members and city officials.

  • Land use (i.e. larger-lot zoning and the Arnold Mill area)
  • Economic development (i.e. agritourism, the Deerfield area and smart technology)
  • Transportation (i.e. bicycle-related enhancements, speed limit changes and trails)
  • Sustainability, natural and cultural resources (i.e. solid waste and recycling options, stormwater management and "green" infrastructure)
  • Placemaking and branding (i.e. marketing, public art and signage)

The launch of the social engagement webpage on June 25 began the official 30-day public comment period required for such Comprehensive Plans in Georgia.

The Project Team will take into account this feedback before going to the City Council again in August. Milton's 2040 Comprehensive Plan will then be submitted to the Atlanta Regional Commission and State of Georgia's Department of Community Affairs for review, before the council votes on a final version in October.
