State Begins Ga. 9 Widening Project To Add Two Lanes, Medians
The Ga. 9 improvement project will ultimately include two lanes in each direction, raised center medians and center turn lanes.

ALPHARETTA, GA — The Georgia Department of Transportation has kicked-off its Ga. 9 improvement project, a three-year effort that will ultimately result in a roadway featuring two travel lanes in each direction, raised center medians, center turn lanes at key locations, and other improvements along the length of the road from Upper Hembree Road to Windward Parkway. The project will connect to similar construction efforts to the north and south that will create a common road profile from the Chattahoochee River to Forsyth County.

The City of Alpharetta is working to get more detailed information from the Georgia Department of Transportation with respect to when various construction activities will occur, when lane and intersection closures may be scheduled, and other aspects of the project that will impact Alpharetta residents and those traveling Ga. 9.
The Georgia Department of Transportation’s contractors can close lanes of Ga. 9 at any time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and anytime on Saturday throughout the three-year life of the project. The city has also been informed that the Georgia Department of Transportation's primary contractor has 45 days to provide the Georgia Department of Transportation with their overall schedule for the project.
