BOYS
As a team the Eagles (13th-17pts) bested 23 scoring programs and were tied with fellow-region team Forsyth Central as the top-finishing team from their region at the state meet. Senior Matt Mazzacano concluded his track career at Milton with a school record in the pole vault (2nd-15β6β) to finish runner-up and lead the Eagle effort. Mazzacano briefly led the competition at the school record height until the eventual winner from Parkview cleared 16β. Mazzacano improved 4β on his school record from 2018. Junior Demarrie Taylor showed he will be a major contender next season as he broke his 100m (10.61) school record in the semi-final on Thursday and then came back for the final on Saturday (3rd-10.73) to finish 3rd! Taylor also anchored the 4x100m relay team (6th-42.71) that ran the schoolβs 2nd best time ever also in the semi-final. Joining Taylor on the podium for the 4x100m relay were seniors Will Bratcher & Uriah Mellem and sophomore Wil Marinich. Taylor also competed in the long jump (14th-19β11β) but failed to advance to the final. Also competing at the state meet was junior Spencer Watry in the 800m (9th-2:02.54).
GIRLS
The Lady Eagles only sent three girls to the state meet but were able to beat back 10 schools. Milton (21st-7pts) was only 5th at the region meet but finished 2nd at the state meet among the region teams competing. Senior co-captain Taylor Cushman led the Lady Eagles with two medal-wining performances. Cushman also ran to two personal bests in the 3200m (8th-11:17.53) & 1600m (7th-5:09.19) that were also the 5th best times in school history in both events! Junior Nyah Hernandez also competed in 2 events and her 3200m (7th-11:17.36) got her on the podium and also is now the 4th best time eve run in school history! Hernandez came back but just missed on a medal in the 1600m (9th-5:14.69). The final scorer for Milton was junior Taylor McQuilken. Her effort in the pole vault (6th-10β6β) was a 6-inch personal best but also is now the 2nd best ever in school history!
