ALPHARETTA/MILTON, GA — Fourth of July is slated to look different this year due to the ongoing pandemic. Alpharetta and Milton's fireworks and many other celebrations are canceled, leaving residents to find ways to celebrate at home. But one thing we can count on is a scheduled holiday.

Because July 4 falls on a Saturday, the Independence Day holiday is observed on Friday, July 3. Fulton County government offices will be closed, and other services will have schedule changes. Many services are already affected by the pandemic.

Here are the openings and closings to know around the holiday:

  • City of Alpharetta: Business offices will be closed July 3.
  • City of Milton: City Hall will be closed July 3.
  • Fulton County government offices: Fulton County offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the 4th of July holiday. Many government buildings and offices have been closed to the public since earlier this year. See services available for residents online.
  • Fulton County public safety services are available 365 days per year.
  • Libraries: The Fulton County Library System began July 1 curbside pickup services and allowing patrons with library books and materials at home to begin returning those materials to their local library branches. County libraries will remain closed for typical in-branch library services, but items placed on hold by library patrons will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Post offices: This year, July 4 falls on a Saturday. Post offices will be closed and there will be no mail or package deliveries.
  • Trash and recycling pickup: The weekly recycling/household waste service schedule in Alpharetta is not impacted by the July 4 holiday. Customers will be serviced on their normally scheduled day.
