$10,000 Mega Millions Ticket Sold In Athens

ATHENS, GA — One ticket worth $10,000 was sold in Athens for the July 23 Mega Millions drawing.

Chevron Food Mart, located at 1112 Hull Road, sold the winning ticket.

Winning numbers from the July 23 Mega Millions drawing were: 1-4-23-40-45 and the Mega Ball was 11. The ticket matched the first four winning numbers with the Mega Ball.

A winner has not come forward to claim the prize yet.

Mega Millions winners in Georgia have 180 days from the draw date to claim prizes.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $21 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.8 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.6 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.

Gov. Brian Kemp announced earlier this month that the Georgia Lottery Corp. transferred its fiscal year 2019 profits, a total of $1,207,369,000, to the State Treasury's Lottery for Education Account. This marks the largest annual transfer in the Georgia Lottery's 26-year history, bringing the total raised for education to more than $21 billion.

"The Georgia Lottery provides revenues to ensure our young students receive a strong pre-K learning foundation, while keeping our best and brightest in state after high school through the HOPE program," Kemp said. "The lottery's historic transfer is an investment in our students, and ultimately, in our workforce and economy."

Georgia Lottery profits fund specific education programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.8 million students have received HOPE and more than 1.6 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.

This year marks the fourth consecutive year the Georgia Lottery has surpassed $1 billion in profits for education and the eighth consecutive year of growth in profits for education.
