ATHENS, GA — July 4th is quickly approaching, and in Athens there are plenty of ways to celebrate, including a family-friendly Independence Day festival, concerts and fireworks. We gathered up all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening around Athens so you can start planning now.

Here's what's in store this July 4th around Athens:

What: Star Spangled Classic

When: Saturday, June 29, 5 p.m.

Celebrate 243 years of American Independence at this free family-friendly Independence Day festival on Saturday, June 29, 2019 in downtown Athens on Clayton Street, between College Avenue and Thomas Street.

Festival activities begin at 5 p.m. and include live music from the Funk Brotherhood, children's activities led by Ladybug Events, and local dessert vendors Hokulia Shave Ice, Kona Ice, Lil Ice Cream Dude, and La Micochana es Natural.

The highlight of the evening will be a synchronized fireworks display and music playlist, scheduled for approximately 9:30 p.m. Be sure to download the J&M Displays app (free on apple + android) to hear the playlist. The fireworks will be launched from the Classic Center parking deck.

Public parking is available at parking meters and the four downtown parking decks. Normal rates apply. Private parking lots may allow public parking for a fee, but some may not allow any public parking and may tow or boot vehicles parked there without permission. Check for signs or instructions before parking vehicles in any locations.

What: Classic City Band Concert

When: June 29

Where: 440 Foundry Pavilion, 300 N. Thomas St.

Price: FREE!

The Classic City Band will perform patriotic music before the fireworks.
