Bomb Squad Called For Suspicious Package At Athens Hotel

An employee was cleaning a guest room when they found what they thought to be explosives.

ATHENS, GA — The Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a suspicious package call at the InTown Suites on Tuesday, according to a release from the department. An employee was cleaning a guest room when they found the package around 2 p.m.

The release says the employee believed it may have been explosive, police say, so they evacuated guests and set up a perimeter. Police called the University of Georgia Police Department’s Bomb Disposal Unit to the scene.

They sent in a robot and "removed multiple explosive devices to a containment vessel," the report says.
