Athens-Clarke Courthouse 'Cleared' After Bomb Threat: Police

Update: A bomb threat was reported Tuesday afternoon at the Athens-Clarke Courthouse. Police asked people to "stay clear of the area."

ATHENS, GA -- Motorists around the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse were advised to stay away from the area temporarily after a reported bomb threat, officials said Tuesday afternoon. Police officials sent an advisory around 2:30 p.m. calling for people to stay clear of the area.

About 3 p.m., law enforcement said that "the court house has been cleared" and people were being let back into the building.

The courthouse, located at 325 E. Washington St., is where many of the city's administrative offices are located. There is no word on whether an evacuation is being conducted in the building or in the area.
