Bank Robbery Suspect Captured In South Carolina: FBI

UPDATE: The FBI Atlanta Field office said Frank Douglas was arrested Dec. 12 in Greenville, South Carolina.


ATHENS, GA -- The FBI Atlanta Field Office is asking the public to help agents locate a bank robber accused of targeting businesses in Athens as well as Conyers. Frank Douglas, 58, is charged with robbing a bank Nov. 28 in North Augusta, South Carolina.

Douglas, who the FBI says has multiple aliases, was released from the U.S. Bureau of Prisons Sept. 29, and is believed to be the suspect in a robbery reported in Athens and another in Conyers.

The first was reported around 12:11 p.m. Nov. 30 at BB&T at 1887 Ga. 20 SE in Conyers. The suspect presented a demand note to the teller, and left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

Around 2:32 p.m. Dec. 5, the suspect walked into Bank of America at 1070 Gaines School Road in Athens, passed a demand note to the employee and left the business with an undisclosed amount of currency, the FBI added.

"During both incidents, the suspect alleged he had a gun and threatened to shoot bank employees if they did not comply with his demands," the FBI added. "Although the suspect has not presented a weapon during these incidents, law enforcement considers him to be armed and dangerous."

Douglas is described as a black male who is roughly 5'10'' tall and weighs around 175 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. The FBI state the suspect is known to stay at budget hotels and motels near interstates under various aliases. Agents also believe he frequents homeless shelters.
