GBI Investigates After Traffic Stop Ends In Officer-Involved Shooting

Traffic stop in Greene County leads to officer-involved shooting. Charles David Robinson, 47, is pronounced dead on the scene.

ATHENS, GA -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an office-involved shooting that occurred in Woodville in Greene County. The incident began when an officer pulled over a motorist on Friday, Aug. 25, authorities said.

Authorities said when a Greene County deputy pulled over Charles David Robinson, 47, he fled on foot, sparking a chase. when the officer caught up with Robinson, an altercation occurred. During the struggle, Robinson was shot by the deputy, according to GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles.

Robinson was rushed to St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Miles said. An autopsy is being performed by the GBI.

The GBI's investigation is ongoing and will be turned over to Greene County upon completion, the agency said.
