"Guided Trail Walks" at Sandy Creek Nature Center
"Guided Trail Walks" at Sandy Creek Nature Center

Get to know the trails at Sandy Creek Nature Center with a guided trail walk!
The Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services will present a series of guided trail walks. The walks are led by local naturalists and offer a chance to become more familiar with the trails and learn about the plants and animals that make their home at Sandy Creek Nature Center.
The guided walks begin at 9:00 AM and afterwards, we will gather in the Visitor’s Center for coffee, tea and homemade refreshments. There are a total of three walks in the series:
Wednesday, October 1 - led by Walt Cook, one of the founders of the Nature Center. Dr. Cook has designed many trails in Athens and always has interesting stories about the history of the land and the development of the Nature Center.
Tuesday, November 4 - led by Dan Williams, the Forest Resource Manager for the Oconee Forest Park and UGA and the author of “Tree ID Made Easier.”
Wednesday, December 3 - led by former Sandy Creek Nature Center Board President Emily Carr and her husband Dale Hoyt, local naturalist who frequently leads the “nature ramblers” at the Botanical Gardens.
The program is free of charge and registration is not required.
