Madison County Deputy Charged With Murder
A sheriff's deputy was arrested early Monday morning on second degree murder charges, according to authorities.
ATHENS, GA — An off-duty Madison County sheriff's deputy has been arrested on murder charges, according to a media release from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
Winford Adams III was arrested after a Sunday domestic incident by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the release says.
The ACCPD was called to the 6000 block of Old Jefferson Road in Clarke County about a shooting, the release says. They found a man, 26, shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Police later identified the man as Benjamin Lloyd Cloer of Athens.

Police took Adams into custody on the scene and, after an investigation, arrested him on Monday around 1:20 a.m.
According to the Athens Clarke County sheriff's website, Adams, born in 1987, faces second degree malice murder charges.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook about the arrest. "It’s a sad day for all Law Enforcement officers," the post says.
Adams is being held without bond.
