Traffic Stop Busts Alleged False Report of Missing Car

A woman who told police her 2009 Dodge Avenger was stolen Sunday was charged after police found the car during a traffic stop.

An Athens-Clarke County police officer responded to a complaint Sunday of a stolen vehicle from a Beaver Pointe Drive residence. The vehicle’s owner, 22-year-old Janice Latoya Hall, said her 2009 Dodge Avenger was stolen between 12:05 and 2:50 p.m. Dec. 28.

An investigation revealed a Georgia State Patrol trooper had contact with the vehicle at a Lexington traffic stop during which the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. When the officer told Hall this information, her demeanor changed and she became extremely nervous, police reported.

Hall was then arrested and charged with false report of a crime.
