3 Killed In S. Fulton When Train Hits Car: Reports

An eyewitness said the car was trying to beat the train, according to media report.

ATLANTA, GA — A woman and two teenage girls died Monday when a freight train struck their car at a railroad crossing in South Fulton County, according to media reports. One other person in the car suffered minor injuries, WSB-TV Channel 2 reported.

The accident occurred at about 4 p.m. Monday at Buffington Road and Roosevelt Highway, near Interstate 85, Channel 2 reported.

The three who died were identified in media reports as Lidonda Carter, 40, Santania McDowell, 18, and Mackenzie Mack, 16.

One accident witness told Channel 2 that the train struck the victims' car as it tried to cross the tracks, sending the vehicle flying. The woman said the driver of the Chevy Impala drove past a railroad crossing gate, which was down, and tried to beat the train.

Authorities are investigating the accident, say media reports.
