Airlines Cancel Hundreds Of Atlanta Flights Due to Snow

Delta, Southwest will allow passengers to waive change fees, say media reports.

ATLANTA, GA — Friday's snowfall has caused hundreds of flights to be canceled at the world's busiest airport, Delta and other airlines announced. The bad weather has also delayed many of the flights that are still arriving and departing from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, according to media reports.

Delta said it canceled 375 flights on Friday at Hartsfield-Jackson, its home base, and may cancel more flights, depending on weather conditions. Other flights will be delayed, Delta said, as the airline ensures that planes "are properly de-iced and continuously moving."

Southwest Airlines, the second largest carrier at Hartsfield-Jackson, canceled more than 40 flights on Friday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Both airlines said they would waive certain change fees for passengers with reservations on Friday and Saturday who want to re-book, the AJC reported. Several other airlines, including Spirit and American Airlines, have announced that they will waive change fees under certain conditions.

The airport and the airlines are urging passengers to monitor their flight's status online and through their airline's social media channels. They should also check the Twitter account for Hartsfield-Jackson at @ATLairport.
