Staying local this winter? With this Atlanta-based travel expert's help, you can unwind as if you were miles away.

Everyone deserves to plan a little escape around the holiday season. And rather than traveling far distances and spending tons of money, there's another option with just as much charm — a staycation.

Fortunately, the city of Atlanta pulls out all the stops when it comes to staycation destinations and activities, whether you're looking to plan a day of adventurous escapades or have a romantic weekend getaway.

But don't just take it from us — Atlanta-based travel blogger Megan Elliott of Lush To Blush is an expert in this sort of thing. And while she's traveled around the globe countless times, Elliott has tons of ways to unwind and relax right here in town, from attending the The Nutcracker at the Fox Theatre to relaxing at the Hotel Clermont.

What are some perks to planning a staycation rather than an actual vacation?

One of the things that always stresses me out about traveling is the worry that I’ll forget something important. When you’re having a staycation, it’s easy to just head home real quick if you need to, so less stress!

What’s the best way someone can feel like they’re truly having the luxury of a getaway when they are staying local?

Make a plan! Do research and pick the best places in your city to visit. Make sure to go only to places you’ve never been to before. And don’t allow yourself to work. In fact, leave your laptop at home — that’s always a hard one for me!

Where are some of your favorite hotels in Atlanta that would be ideal for a staycation?

I love the Four Seasons because it’s in Midtown. Their spa and restaurants are amazing! Hotel Clermont would also be a fun option — the decor is very retro cool and the rooftop is so much fun.

What other vacation-like activities can people enjoy in Atlanta?

We have indoor skydiving here at iFLY, and I plan to go try that soon, which totally feels like a vacation activity to me.

What restaurants do you suggest around town?

There are so many! I love hanging out in Inman Park, especially Barcelona Wine Bar and Bartaco. My favorite pizza places are Antico Pizza and Jack’s Pizza & Wings. And then I’m always up for taco Tuesday at Superica followed by a couple drinks at Ladybird!

Where are the best spas in town?

I absolutely love WIFH! It’s more of a medspa, but they have the best facials. I’ve gotten laser hair removal and microneedling there. Not only are the results incredible, but the staff is just the sweetest ever.

Are there any ideal staycations you can think of when it comes to the holidays?

For Atlanta, getting a cabin up in the Blueridge mountains is always a good choice since it’s only about an hour away. The view of snowy mountains is just so gorgeous! Especially when you’re nice and warm inside a cozy cabin.

Are there any fun holiday events or attractions coming up in Atlanta that you’re excited about?

I went to go see "The Nutcracker" for my birthday and it was beyond amazing! I would totally go again. It’s new this year, and I seriously love everything about it. There’s also an ice rink on the rooftop of Ponce City Market. I haven’t checked that out yet, but I certainly plan to ASAP.
