Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport Has New Procedures In Place

Travelers during the Fourth of July weekend coming through Hartsfield-Jackson Airport will face new procedures.

ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is expecting to see 150,000 passengers in Atlanta through the weekend and 600,000 across its system, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

As more people travel during the holiday weekend, the airport has prepared for the influx during the pandemic.

The airline posted on their website that social distancing markers, hand sanitizer stations and Plexiglas dividers will be in place. Passengers who need face masks will be able to get one as employees distribute them in the airport.

“The (travel) experience is a very comfortable, a very safe experience, we have taken actions, even above and beyond what the CDC has recommended to ensure safety,” Delta’s Chief Customer Experience Officer Bill Lentsch told ABC News.

On Wednesday, after a TSA worker tested positive for the coronavirus, the main security checkpoint shut down for a deep cleaning. It reopened Thursday.

Although Gov. Brian Kemp’s order doesn’t require people to wear masks, airlines are requiring them. The airport is even suggesting people wear them before boarding.

The federal government shared a guidance document on Thursday saying travelers should wear masks. U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said, “Airlines and airports are strongly encouraged to require that everyone correctly wear a mask” — but didn’t mandate it.
