Funeral services for Bill Haynes, 53, held in Kentucky.

ATLANTA, GA -- The Atlanta Public Schools music teacher who was stabbed to death almost two weeks ago in Sandy Springs was laid to rest Tuesday in Kentucky.

The funeral service for William "Bill" Haynes, 53, was held at 11 a.m. Dec. 27 at J.C. Kirby Funeral Chapel in Bowling Green, Kentucky, according to his obituary.

Haynes taught music at E. Rivers Elementary School on Peachtree Battle Avenue. Students and faculty will gather to send condolences via cards to Haynes' mother in Kentucky, the school said in a Facebook post.

Haynes' family and friends gathered earlier this week at the funeral home.

He suffered multiple stab wounds at Extra Space Storage when a murder suspect attacked him about 10 p.m. on Dec. 17.

Police said 31-year-old Justin Paul Hess, who was arrested in the slaying of his mother in Marietta, is a suspect in Haynes' death.

Haynes was also conductor of the Alpharetta City Band, an adult program organized by the city's Recreation and Parks Department.
