Atlanta Oyster Festival And Galentine’s 5K: Atlanta This Weekend

ATLANTA, GA — Valentine's Day might be a week away, but love is in the air as we enter into the weekend before the romantic holiday. If you’d like to get a head start on Valentine’s Day, this Saturday’s concert featuring R&B legends Babyface and Keith Sweat is a must-see. There’s also the Second-Annual Galentine’s Day 5K for ladies (guys are welcome, too) looking to hit the pavement with their friends.

Valentine’s Day vibes aside, this weekend will also welcome a launch party for a new beer, a children’s workshop at the Michael C. Carlos Museum and much more. Here’s what is happening around the city:


Alligator IPA Launch Party

Another week, another beer launch here in Atlanta. The 21-and-up crowd is invited to Atlanta Brewing Co. for the launch of its newest collaboration with the Georgia Aquarium, Alligator IPA. Alligator IPA is a tropics-friendly IPA that’s brewed with juicy pineapple. The launch party will consist of plenty of craft beer, as well as music from The Unusual Animals. As an added perk, a portion of the proceeds from Alligator IPA sales will go toward the Georgia Aquarium's research and conservation efforts.

Atlanta Oyster Festival

When it comes to oysters, the sight of them either makes your stomach do flips or you’re known to down dozens of them with ease — there’s just no in-between. If you fall into the latter category, consider heading down to Park Tavern for the Atlanta Oyster Festival. The festival will feature steamed, fried and raw oysters, and even fried chicken and fried shrimp for the pickier crowd.

Babyface Live

Neighborhood: Midtown

What better way to kick off the weekend before Valentine’s Day than with a concert featuring Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. The Valentine’s Day-inspired concert will also feature a special performance from R&B crooner Keith Sweat. Tickets to the show start at $64.

Second-Annual Galentine’s Day 5K

Neighborhood: Midtown

Over the past few years, Galentine’s Day — a sweet holiday all about ladies celebrating ladies — has swiftly increased in popularity. In honor of this holiday, a special Galentine’s Day 5K will be held on Sunday. In addition to the race, there will be an after-party with chocolate-covered strawberries, pretzels, hot chocolate and more. The after-party will also feature plenty of music, games and giveaways from local merchants.

Children’s Workshop: Making Paneer With Gauri

Neighborhood: Druid Hills

This weekend, the Michael C. Carlos Museum will host an exciting (and delicious) workshop just for kids. Inspired by the museum’s Transcendent Deities of India: The Everyday Occurrence of the Divine exhibit, the workshop will teach attendees how to make the homemade Indian cheese that is paneer. The workshop is ideal for children ages 8 to 12.

Let’s Be Real: Pop-Up Art Show

Neighborhood: West End

Get ready to indulge in amazing art and great food at the Let’s Be Real: Pop-Up Art Show. Twelve artists will display their work, which will center on black women and womanhood. A DJ will be on hand to keep the spirits high, and vegan Ethiopian food will be available for purchase.

Atlanta Hawks vs. New York Knicks

Neighborhood: Downtown

End the week by rooting for the home team, as the Atlanta Hawks take on the New York Knicks. Tickets to Sunday night’s game can be purchased for as low as $23 per person, making it perfect for a family outing.
