Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium Opens As Mega Voting Center

For the first time, voters can head to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to vote early in the Jan. 5 Senate runoff election.

ATLANTA, GA — For the first time, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will now serve Fulton County residents as more than a stadium — it's now a mega outreach location for early voting ahead of the Jan. 5 Senate runoff elections.

Fulton County residents can visit the stadium until Dec. 30 to cast their vote in the Senate runoff elections; however, the stadium is closed for early voting on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Polls are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 22, 23 and 26; noon to 6 p.m. Dec. 27; and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 28-30.

During the first week of early voting — which began Dec. 14 — Fulton voters could cast their ballots at State Farm Arena. But as the Atlanta Hawks's NBA season kicked off this week, Mercedes-Benz Stadium stepped in and Fulton election officials approved the site, according to WSB-TV.

"State Farm Arena averages 2,000 voters per day, we should expect that over the next several days until the 30th. I think with the backdrop here, the setup, how beautiful it is, I think voters are going to have a great experience here," Fulton Elections Director Richard Barron told WSB-TV.

The Jan. 5 Senate runoff elections will determine which political party — Republicans or Democrats — controls the U.S. Senate. The races are between Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, and Republican incumbent Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, respectively.
