Atlanta City Council member and aspiring mayor Brown had left his car unlocked, according to reports.

ATLANTA — Atlanta mayoral candidate and city Councilman Antonio Brown was carjacked Wednesday around the lunch hour, according to reports.

WSB TV is reporting that Brown left his vehicle unlocked while attending an event in the area.

Brown, who represents District 3 on Atlanta’s west side, officially announced his candidacy on May 14, days after Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she would not seek re-election.

He will join City Council President Felecia Moore, fellow Councilman Andre Dickens and former Mayor Bill Campbell deputy chief of staff Sharon Gay on the ballot in November.

Police continue to search for the stolen vehicle and anyone involved in the incident.

But Johnson noted that police often warn the public against leaving their vehicles unlocked.

“The Atlanta Police Department has been talking about these types of crimes and pleading with the public to take some common-sense steps to protect themselves for a long time,” she said. “Ensure your vehicle is locked and your keys are not inside, anytime you leave your car.”
