Dave Matthews, Diplo Set To Play At GA Virtual Music Fundraiser
Georgia Comes Alive, a one-day virtual music festival to promote voter participation in the Jan. 5 Senate runoffs, takes place Dec 26.
ATLANTA, GA — Live for Live Music, a premier music media, marketing and production company, and HeadCount— a national, nonpartisan nonprofit that works with musicians to promote participation in democracy in the U.S. — partnered to present Georgia Comes Alive, a one-day virtual music festival on Dec. 26 to promote voter participation in the Jan. 5, 2021 Senate runoff elections by supporting local grassroots organizations Georgia Coalition for the People's Agenda and CivicGeorgia, according to a recent press release.
Dave Matthews, Diplo, Ben Folds, The Lame Ducks — a supergroup project featuring Bob Weir of Grateful Dead; Dave Schools of Widespread Panic; Jeff Chimenti of Dead & Company; and Jay Lane of both Wolf Bros. and Primus — and 36 other musical guests will perform throughout the afternoon and evening starting at 3 p.m. Dec. 26, the release said. Beginning Wednesday, those interested in watching the virtual festival can visit the Georgia Comes Alive website, donate any amount to the cause and receive an email with a link to the event's livestream.
Georgia Comes Alive is the latest from the same team behind Democracy Comes Alive, Quarantine Comes Alive and Justice Comes Alive, which collectively raised almost $300,000 for various charitable causes and garnered nearly two million views, according to the release.

"The stakes are incredibly high in the Georgia runoffs. The fate of the music industry, struggling small businesses around the country and our democracy as a whole are at stake," said Kunj Shah, the founder of Live for Live Music and the Comes Alive event series, in the press release. "With Georgia Comes Alive, we hope to once again channel the power of music to support the grassroots organizations getting people to the polls in January and shine a national spotlight on the importance of participation in democracy."
Andy Bernstein, the co-founder and executive director of HeadCount, said in the release that he welcomes anyone inside or outside of Georgia to participate and see the work done by these grassroots organizations in the state.

"This is a great way for people outside of Georgia to support the amazing organizations doing the hard work on the ground in The Peach State. We hope the funds we raise and the positive energy all have a real impact," Bernstein said in the press release.
The Jan. 5, 2021 Senate runoffs in Georgia have drawn national attention, as the two races determine which political party has control of the U.S. Senate. Democrats Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock are facing Republican incumbent Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, respectively.
