Braves Back Down; Food Now Allowed At SunTrust Park

Fans can now take limited amounts of food and beverages into the new SunTrust Park with them.

ATLANTA, GA – The fans have spoken, and the Atlanta Braves have heard their angry voices.

The Major League Baseball club announced on Tuesday that it was reversing an earlier decision and would again amend its food policy to allow fans to bring limited amounts of outside food and beverages into the new SunTrust Park.

Per terms of the new policy announced on the Braves’ Facebook page Tuesday morning, fans will be able to bring food inside the stadium as long as it fits inside a clear, gallon-sized plastic bag and a sealed plastic bottle of water. Only one bag of food and bottle of water per ticket will be allowed. Additional considerations will be made for infants and those with dietary issues.

All bags of food will be subject to additional inspection at security prior to entry.

The policy reversal comes less than a week after the team first announced that no outside food or beverages were going to be allowed into the stadium other than that for infants or those with special dietary needs.

The decision didn’t sit well with irate Braves fans, who quickly voiced their displeasure.

A Braves spokesperson attributed the changes to a result of tighter security being put into place this season throughout the league, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Fans can still enjoy their own food and beverages before entering the game in an approved tailgating zone near Surface Lot 6 at Sun Trust Park. The designated lot will remain unlocked for two hours after each regular season game.

The Braves begin the season with a two-week road swing, starting in New York on Monday, April 3, against the Mets. Their home opener against the San Diego Padres will be on Friday, April 14.
