ATLANTA, GA — An unidentified man is recovering in Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot five times while trying to break up a robbery early Wednesday at a southwest Atlanta gas station, and police are looking for the robbers, according to media reports. The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. at a Texaco station in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The man was getting gas when he saw a suspect attempt to rob another individual hanging out in front of the station, an Atlanta police spokesman said. When the good Samaritan inervened, the suspect shot him, wounding him in the torso, buttocks and hip, the AJC reported.
The man returned fire, forcing the would-be robber to flee the scene in a white car with two other men. The police recovered a handgun and an assault rifle, an AK-47, at the scene.
