ATLANTA, GA — Google broke ground in Midtown Atlanta Monday for a new office building, according to a release from the company. The project is a part of Google's $13 billion project in building offices and data centers across the United States.

Georgia Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan and other community leaders were there. "Georgia’s diverse workforce, high quality of life and friendly business environment are all benefits Google recognized and took advantage of," Duncan said, according to the release.

The office, at 1105 West Peachtree, is being built by Selig Enterprises, and Google will use five floors of the building, the release says. It's expected to open in 2022.

"We are proud companies like Google have made a strong footprint here and look forward to their continued growth in our state," Duncan said.

Google first came to Atlanta in 2001, the release says, when they established a small sales hub. They moved to their current location in 2006.
