ATLANTA – Macy's Atlanta Great Tree will return to Lenox Square this year for the 73rd annual tree lighting.

In an effort to keep people safe, this year's event will be an invite-only affair, with Atlanta Mayor Bottoms and friends from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in attendance to kick of the holiday season this Thursday.

The Great Tree is an eco-friendly reusable tree that is adorned with 45,000 LED lights. It will be in place atop Macy's Lenox Square from Thursday through Jan. 1, 2021.

Young patients from the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta have served as honorary tree lighters, helping to push the button and illuminate the 56-foot tree.

This year, Kenni, a 3-year-old diagnosed with a rare ovarian cancer who is now cancer free, will help light the tree.
