Police Probing House Fire Where Husband, Wife Found Dead: Reports

The fire broke out early Tuesday at a home in northwest Atlanta, say media reports.

ATLANTA — Fire investigators and police detectives are investigating the deaths of a northwest Atlanta couple after their bodies were found early Tuesday following a fire at their home, according to media reports. The names of the man and woman have not been released, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Firefighters responded at about 4 a.m. Tuesday to the single-family home in the 2400 block of Harvel Drive.

They encountered heavy flames upon arrival, covering about 50 percent of the house, Atlanta Fire Chief Randall Slaughter told the AJC. The bodies of the husband and wife were found covered in heavy debris, he said.

No determination has been made on the cause of the deaths or of the fire, the AJC reported. Asked about the circumstances of the deaths, Slaughter said it's still early in the investigation.
