Ground Stop Lifted For Incoming Flights To Atlanta Friday
Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport has reopened all inbound flights Friday, after a ground halt due of thunderstorms.
ATLANTA, GA — Severe weather around Atlanta caused officials at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to request all inbound flights to be held at their origin until 10:30 a.m. on Friday. As of noon, the ground stop has been lifted.
The National Weather Service said parts of north and central Georgia will see a round of moderate to heavy rain today which could cause nuisance flooding due to poor drainage and some rises on smaller creeks and rivers. No widespread flooding is anticipated.
Due to the weather and thunderstorms, the FAA said inbound flights are not arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. That will cause complications for fliers across the country as the nation's busiest airport imposes the delay.

"Thunderstorms could slow traffic in Atlanta and over the Gulf of Mexico," the FAA said. "Heavy post-holiday traffic is expected along the East Coast and in Colorado’s Ski Country."
Passengers are sounding off online about the delay.

A flood watch remains in effect through this evening for far northwest Georgia where moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall could lead to flooding of creeks, streams and rivers, as well as roadways and low-lying areas.
There is a marginal risk of isolated severe thunderstorms over much of central Georgia today into the early evening which could produce damaging winds.
Heavy rain will taper off Friday night from west to east, but runoff from earlier rain could produce rises and continued flooding on area creeks and rivers.
